Kawanise "Squeaky" Wilkins of the Barton Community College men's basketball team has been named the KJCCC Kansas MTXE Men's Division I Basketball Player of the Week for his efforts in week two of the 2017 season. The award is the second consecutive for the Cougar program as Marvin Cannon's seventeen point and seven rebound average effort led to the season's week one award.
Wilkins put up double-double numbers this past week helping Barton eclipsing the century mark twice including capturing Saturday's conference opener over Colby improving to 5-0 on the season. Shooting 68% and averaging thirty minutes in the two games, the Chicago freshman recorded his first collegiate double-double in twenty-five minutes of action with a twenty-one point and ten rebound effort on Wednesday before powering Barton on Saturday with a career high effort of twenty-six points and twelve boards for his second consecutive double-double performance.
The unblemished start to the season will be severely tested Wednesday night as the Cougars take to the road for the first time in travelling to Garden City Community College, a Broncbuster squad also at 5-0 after Saturday's 75-59 win at Butler Community College. Tip-off at the Dennis Perryman Athletic Complex slated for 8:00 p.m.
