For the third consecutive week to open up the 2017 season, a member of the Barton Community College men's basketball team has been named the KJCCC Kansas MTXE Men's Division I Basketball Player of the Week. Leading the Cougars to an 8-0 start including 4-0 in the rugged Jayhawk Conference, Keshon Montague is the latest to receiving the honor joining Marvin Cannon and Kawanise Wilkins earning the distinction.
At the center of Barton's balanced offensive attack has been the consistency of the point guard position as Montague has led Barton to its unblemished start to the season. Averaging 15 points per game in last week's pair of conference victories at Garden City and at home against Butler, the Jayhawk's assist leader averaged 5.5 dimes in addition to grabbing 3.5 rebounds and recording 2.5 steals per contest.
Barton most recently earned a hard fought 75-70 victory over Seward County this past Tuesday at the Barton Gym. The Cougars trailed by eleven midway through the first half but begin second half play on a 12-2 run to flip the tide before holding off the Saints for Barton's third straight win in the series. The Cougars will have its second road game and perhaps toughest game this far in the season with a Saturday trip to Arkansas City to face the only other conference unbeaten in 4-0 and 7-1 on the year Cowley College in a 7:30 p.m. tip at the William S. Scott Gym in Arkansas City, Kansas.
