Cougars lose heartbreaker in bottom of 7th
A two-out single in the bottom of the seventh gave the MCC-Longview baseball team a 3-2 win over Barton Community College in Saturday's first game of the doubleheader in Leeâs Summit, Missouri. Barton drops to 12-23 on the season while the Lakers improve to 16-13.
An Erik Benson two out single to left field scoring Pete Ruiz gave the Cougars a third inning 1-0 lead. Dylan Farrell led off the MCC-Longview fourth inning with a triple to right field, tying the game on a Brandon Dulin sacrifice fly.
Barton responded in the fifth as Erik Benson scored from first base on a Jace Bowman double to left field.
Giving up two walks to begin the bottom of the seventh, Craig Nicks nearly held the Lakers at bay getting a sacrifice out and a strike-out looking. Nicks then walked Farrell setting up a Dulin two-out two RBI single up the middle giving the Lakers the come-from-behind 3-2 win.
Nicks took the loss for the Cougars pitching the last 1.2 innings to fall to 1-4 on the season. Ryan Spry pitched the last 2.2 innings for the Lakers to earn his first win on the season.
