Having their four conference meet victory stretch snapped the last time the Barton Community College women’s golf team visited Mariah Hills Golf Course, the Lady Cougars couldn’t avenge the loss in coming up second at the sixth and final KJCCC meet of the season. Shooting their worst team score since 2014 last October at the course, the Lady Cougars improved by twelve strokes despite sustained 20mph wind gusting up to forty-five but trailed host Dodge City Community College by four strokes after the opening eighteen holes. Returning to the somewhat settled down course on Saturday with 15mph wind, the field played much better but the Lady Cougars were unable to climb back as the Conquistadors widen the lead by eight on the final nine holes to win with a total score of 538 to Barton’s 550. The Dodge City victory evened the conference matchups with Barton at three victories each with the next meeting coming next Friday and Saturday in the Region VI Championship held at Hutchinson’s Carey Park Golf Course.

For the second straight conference meet, the Barton Community College women’s golf team couldn’t hold on to its first day lead in finishing runner-up at the KJCCC No. 4 Meet held at Emporia’s Municipal Golf Course. Clinging to a three stroke advantage after Friday’s first eighteen holes, Dodge City Community College turned the tide during Saturday’s final nine holes with an eight stroke advantage to win by five strokes. The Conquistadors finished with a combined 519 with the Lady Cougars at 524 to draw even with Barton in team conference victories while easily outdistancing Coffeyville Community College’s 633.
