Barton County Community College men's basketball coach Ryan Wolf released a list of five in-state signings for the upcoming basketball season. Two players come to Barton from Wichita, traditionally one of the hotbeds in Kansas recruiting. The other three come from some of the top basketball programs in the state.
Rone Smith, a 6-6 swing player from Wichita Southeast comes to Barton after scoring 17 points and grabbing eight rebounds a game. He also hit a school record 56 percent from the floor.
"Rone was an in-state priority for us," Coach Wolf said.
Also from Wichita is 6-5 swing guard Tyler Luke. Luke scored 15 points and grabbed six boards per contest for the Wichita Northwest last season.
"He shoots the ball extremely well," Coach Wolf said. "Both Rone and Tyler come from good programs with some good tradition."
Marcus Chrisman will attend Barton next season, coming from Kansas City Schlagle High School, another tradition-rich school in the state. Chrisman, a 6-5 swing player, scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds per contest last season.
The other two in-state signees will be point guards for the Cougars. Chris McMillon, from Highland Park High School, scored 12 points and handed out eight assists per contest for the Scotties last season. McMillon, 6-1, played high school basketball with Raphael Posey, a sophomore for the Cougars. His fresman season, McMillon played at the famed Mt. Zion Christian Academy in North Carolina along with current NBA player Tracy McGrady.
"Both Chrisman and McMillon are big-time athletes," Coach Wolf said.
Cody Rierson, from McPherson High School, scored 13 points a game for the Bullpups.
"He is strong and scrappy," Coach Wolf said of the 5-10 guard. "People are going to be surprised with the way he plays."
Returning in-state players for the Cougars are Posey, Elisha Fields, and Aaron Hekele. Barton also has four out-of-state players inked for next season so far in transfer Omari Westley, incoming freshmen Aaron Patterson and Jesse McClung and sophomore returnee Jason Carter.
