Bio

Doug Kaiser is in his 18th season leading the women's golf team while entering his 16th year as the men's coach.

Reloading with a young squad for the 2024-25 season, Kaiser guided the young core through a season marked by development and competitive growth. Despite fielding one of his youngest squads in recent years, the Cougars consistently contended with earning five runner-up finishes and three third-place results across their tournament schedule, with only one finish outside the top five.

In conference play, the Cougars remained steady, securing a third-place finish in the opening meet alongside a pair of runner-up performances to conclude the regular season.

Facing difficult spring conditions, including fluctuating temperatures and high winds through the Region 6/Plains District Tournament, Barton concluded their team season with a fourth-place finish.

Individually, freshman Charmochanok Laparojkit tied for ninth place at the regional meet to earn an individual berth to the NJCAA National Tournament, extending Barton’s streak of 14 consecutive national championship appearances. Ranked No. 70 nationally entering the year end event, Laparojkit completed the four-day tournament in 58th place with a final card of 328 (+40) in the 79-participant field.

Kaiser guided his Cougars to their 13th consecutive NJCAA National Championship appearance during the 2023-24 season. Kaiser’s squad delivered a 12th-place finish at the National Tournament.

Freshman standout Butpapaporn Sukterm emerged as one of the top individual players in the nation. Sukterm finished as national runner-up, equaling the program’s best-ever finish set by Peeradon Piddon in 2017. Her final round performance, a program-record 6-under par, propelled her to an even-par finish for the tournament. Sukterm’s record-setting week included 16 birdies and only 11 holes over par, both setting new program bests for a national championship event.

Overall, on the season, the Cougars placed second in all three conference meets and secured a third-place finish at the Region 6/Plains District Tournament ultimately earning one of the at-large bids to the national tournament.

Sukterm claimed the 2024 KJCCC Individual Championship, finishing atop the season-long standings with two runner-up finishes and a tournament victory.

In addition to Sukterm’s accolades, sophomore Valentina earned KJCCC First-Team honors and fellow sophomore Andrewa Peraza added a KJCCC Second Team distinction.

During the 2022-23 season, Kaiser and his Barton squad finished 6th at the NJCAA Division I Championships held at Garden City’s Buffalo Dunes Golf Course. The team accomplishment matched the 2019 Cougars’ placement on the national stage and the 6th time in program history within a top 10 place.

The campaign also featured a historic milestone, as Kaiser placed two Cougars inside the top 18 individually, Yu Wi Chiang tied for 9th with Saya Schweitzer at 14th overall. Following tie break scenarios, Chiang was awarded the 11th position for 2nd team All-America honors finishing at 18-over 306 while Schweitzer’s 21-over 309 earned Honorable Mention All-America distinction.

The 2021-2022 season, the Cougars placed 3rd at the Plains District Championship before making their 11th consecutive team trip to the national tournament after being selected for an at-large berth.

At the national tournament in Florida, the women concluded the season with a 12th finish, led by the 31st spot placing by Mathanee Pandee. Pornapa Inmee placed 56th with Pawinee Sukasem, who placed 8th at District, following in 59th, as Matilyn Newman came in 63rd and Paulina Villavicencio at 79th.

The Cougars earned five spots on the All-KJCCC team, Pandee and Sukasem on the first team, Inmee and Villavicencio on the second team, and Newman earning honorable mention distinction.

Academically the Cougars carried a 3.11 cumulative GPA to rank 23rd nationally with Newman earning first team All-Academic honors and Sukasem earning 3rd team distinction.

In 2020-21, Kaiser’s Cougars finished with a 9th place finish at the NJCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships in 2020-21 securing the third straight top-10 finish for the program. As a squad Barton capped the season with five runner-up finishes while sending a Region VI best five individuals to the NJCAA Championships.

Off the course Kaiser’s club led all of Region VI in the classroom as the team combined for a 3.46 GPA ranking 11th out of the 20 national teams posting a 3.0 or better.

After not fielding a complete women’s team in his first season, Coach Kaiser’s twelve seasons have produced six region championships, four region runner-up finishes, ten national tournament appearances, six individual regional champions, and three NJCAA All-American honors.

The 2020 season will go down as what could have been for Kaiser and the Lady Cougars as the Coronavirus pandemic put a halt on the spring portion of the season. Barton concluded the year ranked 11th nationally piecing together a trio of team titles in the fall semester claiming the Central Kansas Classic, Blue Devil Fall Classic and the annual Barton Invitational.

Off the links the Lady Cougars had five players receive NJCAA academic recognition for achieving over a 3.60 GPA as the squad combined for a nation’s 11th best 3.48 GPA.

Kaiser’s 11th season at helm produced an unprecedented year of accomplishments.  Making the squad’s 9th straight trip to the NJCAA National Championships, the season came to an end within the nation’s top 14 for the seventh straight year which was highlighted by the program’s highest ever 6th place national finish.

Beginning the season with a runner-up finish in September, the Cougars ran the table the rest of the schedule in winning the next seven meets before breaking the program record with a 300 combined round to capture the program’s seventh Region VI crown.

Six Cougars qualified for the national tournament led by the now two-time Region VI Champion Mutita Booranakunamanee in holding off teammate Vilma Efraimsson for a two-stroke victory to earn Barton’s fifth straight individual region championship.

The 2017-18 season pushed the national streak to eight straight as four Lady Cougars finished in the Region VI’s top-10 in shooting a program record low of 308.  Advancing to the national championships, Barton matched its then highest national tournament finish placing 9th to finish in the nation’s top 14 for the sixth straight year.

Off the course, the Lady Cougars were even more spectacular in the classroom in claiming the NJCAA Academic National Championship.  Led by three members achieving a perfect 4.0 GPA, the squad earned an overall 3.72 GPA with eight members above the 3.60 GPA for national academic distinction.

After not fielding a complete women’s team in his first season, Coach Kaiser’s ten seasons has produced five region championships, four region runner-up finishes, nine national tournament appearances, five individual regional champions, and three NJCAA All-American honors.

The 2016-17 season earned the program's seventh consecutive trip to the national championships as five Lady Cougars finished in the Region VI's top ten.  School history concluded the season at the NJCAA Women's Golf National Championship as Peerada Piddon finished runner-up leading the Lady Cougars to a 14th place finish.  Piddon followed up her then-school record seventh placing last year as a freshman to wrap up her career by also recording the lowest four-round score of 10-over for the championship.

As a team the Lady Cougars’ finished the four-day championship with its fourth straight day of improvement to place amongst the nation's top fourteen for the fifth straight year.

Coming off consecutive top-10 national finishes, Coach Kaiser reloaded the 2015-16 squad with all freshman to capture its then fourth straight Region VI title with five players in the top ten rolling to a twenty-five stroke victory and an eventual 13th placing at the NJCAA Championships in Florida.

Winning all seven regular season tournaments, Barton had five of the top-10 golfers in winning Region VI going on to place tenth at the National Championships in Arizona as the 2014-15 squad finished the season in the top ten for the second straight year.

The 2013-14 squad was a historic one in Lady Cougar golf history as Barton won its second straight conference and region championship for the third time in four years.  The Lady Cougars went on to finish 9th place nationally, its highest national placing since the 10th placing of the 2006 squad.  Freshman Natthakan Teeratrakul earned All-Tournament Team honors placing 18th for the highest individual placing in school history.  The team effort was also the best Region VI women's finish since 2005 and the best individual finish since 2005.

The Lady Cougars were equally dominate during the 2012-13 season, winning five of the six conference meets to win the KJCCC Championship.  Reaching a national ranking of #9, the Lady Cougars won the Region VI Championship and went on to take eleventh at the NJCAA Division I Women’s Golf Championships.

In the 2011-12 season, the Lady Cougar golf team finished second in Region VI and finished 17th at the NJCAA Tournament.

During the 2010-11 season, the women won 3-of-4 conference tournaments and 5-of-7 overall, finishing 2nd in both tournaments, to go on and win the Region VI Championship and 17th place finish at the NJCAA National Tournament.

Kaiser played for Great Bend High School before becoming a top-15 Region 6 Cougar golfer in the early 1980's along with former Barton Coach Steve Gotsche.

On the men’s side, Kaiser continues to lead the Cougars' relevance in the powerhouse Region 6.
