Barton Wrestling headed for Nationals, Bammes and Bardezbain take home top awards as all ten Cougars qualify

The Barton Community College Wrestling team continued to make noise in its first year of competition taking second place in the NJCAA West/Central District Championships held Saturday in Chanute, Kansas. The Cougars were led by the Coach of the Year Mike Bammes getting an individual title from Will Bardezbain in the 125 weight class with all ten athletes finishing in the top five. Great Bend’s Kade Sander took home the second place 157 pound medal while the rest of the Cougars took home four third places, two fourth, and two fifth places. As a team the Cougars scored 131.0 finishing second only to the nation’s top ranked Golden Norseman of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College’s 170.5 points and outscoring Pratt Community College’s third place 104.0 score. Barton will next head to the NJCAA Championships in Council Bluffs, Iowa, held February 26-27 in the Mid-America Center.
