Sander's runner-up finish leads Barton Wrestling at Doane Open #GoBarton

The No. 14 ranked Barton Community College wrestling team closed out the fall portion of the schedule Saturday, going 28-31 with an individual runner-up finish in the Doane University Open held in Crete, Nebraska.

No. 7 ranked Kade Sander made a run for the 157 title before coming up just shy in an 8-6 decision to University of Nebraska red-shirt freshman Zemua Baptista. Having received a first round bye, Sander rolled to the finals with a 15-4 major decision over Midland University's Paul Longshore, pinned Brayden Wills of Nebraska Kearney in 6:40, and piled up a 23-5 technical fall over Grant Albrecht of Chadron State, before earning a 13-5 semifinal major decision over Concordia University's Victor Haro.

Barton's other three ranked wrestlers failed to place with No. 5 ranked David Kelly in the 174 and Brix Brickey in the 285 both reaching the quarterfinals before having their day end on the consolation side of the bracket. No. 8 ranked Kelton Suchy lost a hard fought 3-2 165 division first round decision before winning the next two over Cowley College wrestlers joining Kelly in a 2-2 day. Brickey, who won three straight to reach the quarterfinals, ended at 3-2 dropping his final two matches.

Emmanuel Peralta joined Sander in a four win day bouncing back from a 5:00 fall in the 149 first round to win the next four including a 17-0 technical fall over Cowley College's Travis King.
