It was a Tuesday evening of highs and lows for the Barton Community College wrestling team as the Cougars split its results hosting a pair of nationally ranked conference squads.
Knocking off No. 11 Neosho County Community College 42-4 in the opener for the season sweep over the Panthers, the Cougars had its four match win streak against ranked opponents snapped in the evening's finale as 5th ranked Cowley College won the last three matches in pulling out a 21-18 victory.
In the other matchup of the evening, Cowley swept all the matches against Neosho County to win 46-0.
Barton's dual record moves to 5-4 on the year in outscoring its opponents 249-148 headed to a single dual conference matchup at 7:00 p.m. next Tuesday hosting 8th ranked Pratt Community College.
As a reminder of attendance policy for home wrestling, Tuesday's matches include free admission for spectators with safety protocols in place including 25% capacity limit of the Barton Gym and mandatory mask wearing required. The matches will also be streamed live and archived on the Barton Sports Network located at BartonSports.com.
Neosho County
Barton won nine of the ten matchups, including falls from Dawson Chavez, Bryan Ford, Davontai Robinson, and Ayston Perez.
Drew Liles began the dual with an 11-0 major decision in the 124 division but the Panthers evened the match in the 133 division as 5th ranked Kolton Smith defeated the Cougars' Silas Pineda 14-0.
Drew Burgoon's 10-1 major decision got the Cougars back on track, Cody Liles (149) 8-1 decision victory kept the train rolling with Chavez' 4:05 win at 157 became the first of the four Barton back flattening victories.
Stephen Duffy (174) rolled up an 11-3 major decision with Ford (174) and Robinson (184) ended their matches with 4:22 and 2:30 falls respectively.
It took extra time for the 197 division victor to be decided with Trezen Doren scoring a takedown in the second tie breaker for a 4-2 decision. Perez closed out the dual in two minutes for the final touches of the season sweep over the Panthers.
The Cougars also went 4-0 in the extra matches, Izaiah Del Valle (149) and Carson Wheeler (157) won 8-2 and 10-4 decisions with Dre Bonner (174) and Dillon Dunn (197) recording falls in 1:17 and 4:47 respectively.

Each team won five of the ten matchups with the difference coming on the Tigers' one more fall than the Cougars as the dual came down to the final three seconds of the 285 division.
D. Liles again put the Cougars off on the right foot, knocking off 6th ranked Austin Kincaid after building a six point first period lead before holding off for an 8-6 victory.
Cowley won the next two matches to go up 9-3 behind Brayden Strachan's late third period pin over Pineda and Malik Johnson's 9-3 win over Burgoon.
Barton took the next four matches, sparked by the 1:19 fall from C. Liles over JaCorey Miller in the 149. Following a scoreless first two periods, Chavez came out the victor 4-3 in the 157 over Alex Rodriguez. Duffy needed a third period four-point near fall to win 9-7 in the 165 over Trevor Shook and Bryan Ford scored a reversal in the second tiebreaker for a 3-2 win over Montez Robinson in 174.
The Tigers made their comeback in the 184 on Ryan Locke's 4:28 pin of Robinson followed by 8th ranked Matt Santos scoring late and holding off Doren's upset bid in a 4-2 decision.
With the dual tied at 18 it all came down to the final match of the five hour triangular in the Cougars' Perez and Cowley's Austin Thornton. Perez struck first with a takedown with Thornton escaping cutting the lead in half. Thornton escaped again from the down position to begin the second to tie it up headed to the third period. In the third it was Perez' opportunity to score an escape but Thornton was able to hold on as the riding clock ticked in the favor of the visitor to earn the decisive point with two seconds remaining for the victory.
In the extra matches, Barton won four of the six as Anthony Mariche (125), Izaiah Del Valle (149), Carson Wheeler (157), and Dillon Dunn (197) each stayed unbeaten on the season.
