Barton Tennis' Abyasova earns UTR/ITA Player of the Week national award #GoBarton

Alexandra Abyasova of the 5th ranked Barton Community College women's team was recognized nationally Wednesday by the Universal Tennis Rating (UTR) and Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) for her performances last week.

The ITA UTR Player of the Week honors a collegiate tennis player whose increase in UTR rating throughout the previous week was indicative of his/her high level of performance, including notable wins such as clinching matches and upsets.

Abyasova raised her UTR this past week by .45 points to 8.13 in winning both her matches Friday helping the Cougars knock off 4th ranked Cowley College 5-4.

Partnering with Malena Hernandez in doubles action, the duo won 8-2 over the Tigers' Isid Hernandez and Saara Kunakunova helping the Cougars to a 2-1 lead headed into the six singles' action.

In an epic three set battle in the No. 1 singles slot, Abyasova prevailed over Cowley's Hernandez in remaining undefeated in singles play at 6-0 on the year behind the 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 victory.

Abyasova and the Cougars program's next action comes on Thursday in a 1:00 p.m. first serve at Rockhurst University.
