Bio
Trent Edgerton was named as an assistant coach, sprints, hurdles, mid-distance and cross country for the Barton Track and Field/Cross Country in August of 2019. In his first season he demonstrated that he is one of the premier track and field coaches in the country and that Barton is one the of elite programs in the NJCAA. Since arriving in Great Bend, Edgerton has made an immediate impact during the indoor season with the Barton County program, Edgerton’s athletes have won 4 individual NJCAA event titles, earning 33 All-American honors and winning 7 Region VI individual titles.
The 2020 men’s team placed second at the NJCAA Indoor Championships for the third consecutive year also finishing second at the NJCAA Region VI Championship. The men scored 99.5 points at the NJCAA Indoor Championships, its most scored during this three-year run of runner-up finishes. The 2020 women had a remarkable season finishing fourth in the team standings at the NJCAA Indoor Championships after finishing winning the NJCAA Region VI Indoor team title. During the year, Caleb Boger set the school 200m record and became #3 all-time on the collegiate list, Davonte Burnett moved up to #3 in school history as well #9 all-time on the collegiate list in the 60m while accomplishing similar feats in the 200m becoming #5 in both school history and amongst collegiate all-time, Phillip Lemonious hurdled his way to #3 in school history and #5 all-time on collegiate list in the 60m hurdles, and Christal Mosley put herself in the mix as she became #7 in school history and #10 all-time amongst collegiates in the 400m. All 4 student-athletes won individual titles at the Region VI Championships as well as the NJCAA Indoor Championships.
Edgerton was named the 2020 USTFCCCA Indoor Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year and was named the Region VI Indoor Men’s Assistant Coach of the Year. Edgerton mentored student-athletes in his event specific groups to 4 individual NJCAA event titles, earning 33 All-American honors and 7 Region VI individual titles.
Prior to his arrival at Barton, Edgerton spent the three seasons (2016-2019) as a Volunteer Assistant at Texas A&M University with specific duties working alongside both the men’s & women’s sprints, hurdles and mid-distance athletes. Served as a volunteer assistant during the 2017 season where A&M saw their first ever NCAA Indoor Championship as the men captured the team title.
A 2009 graduate from Archbishop John Carroll High School in Washington, D.C, Edgerton returned to his roots to lead Carroll for three seasons (2013-2016) which included the sprint powerhouse’s 2016 New Balance national 4x100m relay title and 4x400m relay runner-up. Along with two trips to the historic Penn Relays Championships of America event in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.
A 2014 graduate of Howard University, Edgerton was an assistant for the Sports Information Department during his collegiate time before earning a bachelor’s degree in sports management with a minor in economics.
