Jim Cartisser enters his second season leading the Barton Volleyball program.

In his inaugural season at Barton, Cartisser guided the Cougars to a 31-7 record while leading the program to its third straight KJCCC Division I regular season championship, second consecutive Region 6/Plains District Division I championship and second straight NJCAA Division I National Tournament appearance.

Cartisser arrived in Great Bend following an 18-year tenure at the College of Southern Idaho, where he helped the Golden Eagles capture four NJCAA Division I National Championships, a national runner-up finish and numerous conference and region championships while developing multiple NJCAA All-America selections.

Serving as head coach for the final six seasons of his tenure at CSI, Cartisser compiled a 118-61 overall record, highlighted by the 2018 NJCAA Division I National Championship. The title run earned Cartisser both AVCA and NJCAA Coach of the Year honors.

Prior to becoming Southern Idaho’s head coach, Cartisser spent 12 seasons as an assistant coach, including the final eight alongside his late wife, Heidi. Together, the pair guided the Golden Eagles to two NJCAA Division I National Championships and a national runner-up finish before Cartisser assumed the program’s head coaching duties in 2018.

Cartisser began his collegiate coaching career in 1994 at Edmonds Community College before making stops at Treasure Valley Community College and Chicago State University. He also served as the head men’s volleyball coach at Kendall College during the 2002 and 2003 seasons and founded and managed Club Canyon Volleyball Club from 2006-14.

A native of Oregon, Cartisser developed his passion for volleyball on the sand before continuing his playing career with the club program at Portland State University.
