Barton women's cross country continues climb up national ladder with 11th place finish, Mato dethroned as individual champion

The rise continues for the Barton Community College women?s cross country team as the Lady Cougars improved sixteen spots from last season finishing 11th this past Saturday at the 2015 NJCAA Division I Cross Country Championship held at the Lakeside Municipal Golf Course in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

The Barton Community College women’s cross country team placed second Saturday at the Region VI Championships held on the campus of Johnson County Community College in Overland Park, Kansas. Featuring five teams either in the nation’s top twenty or receiving votes, the No. 11 ranked Lady Cougars with three among the top eleven had the best combined 5k time amongst the teams’ top five runners but finished thirteen places behind Region Champion and No. 9 ranked Butler Community College. After finishing 8th last season the runner-up finish also marked the highest for Barton since the 2003 season when the Lady Cougars finished fifth in the nation.

Competing without its second best runner, the No. 8 ranked Barton Community College women's cross country team finished seventh today in the Black race of the FHSU Tiger Open held at Sand Plum Nature Trail in Victoria, Kansas. Lydia Mato took home the title easily winning the 5k race as three Lady Cougars placed within the Top-33 of the 133 competitor race.

Taking on some of the best cross country competition in the nation, members of the Barton Community College women's team competed this past Saturday in the collegiate division at the 27th annual Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival hosted by the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The No. 8 ranked Lady Cougars placed 18th out of 33 collegiate teams in the 5k race competing against 436 competitors. The No. 10 Razorbacks took home the university title in the seventeen team NCAA Division I field.

The Barton Community College women's cross country team was on a mission Saturday at Hutchinson’s Westar/Prairie Ridge Park blowing the competition away at the Terry Masterson Classic hosted by Hutchinson Community College. The Lady Cougars placed three runners in the top ten and five within the top twenty as Barton averaged 21:13.8 over the 5k course, over thirty five seconds better than second place Dodge City Community College.

The Barton Community College women's cross country team got their season underway Saturday participating in the 67th Annual J.K. Gold Classic held in Augusta, Kansas. With a total of 101 competitors, the Lady Cougars competed against NCAA Division I, small college, and other NJCAA competitors taking second in the college/university division. Barton averaged 16:26 per person at the R.A.F.T. Course covering the 4k race in a team total of 1:22.06 and just thirty seven seconds from the top spot.
