Barton Athletics finishes 4th in NATYCAA Ron Case Cup standings and top ten in LEARFIELD Directors’ Cup standings.
A trio of national runners-up among six Top-5 finishes led another excellent national competition showing during the 2024-25 season by the Barton Community College athletic programs as the Cougars placed within the top four of the annual Daktronics Scholarship Division standings for the eighth straight year.
The competition, which is organized by the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), utilizes a College's top five finishes per gender at their highest level of national competition to earn points for the Ron Case Cup presented by Daktronics.
Compiling 163 points within its ten highest national team placings, five from the men and five from the women, Barton's 4th place total was just 1.5 points from third in snapping its seven-year streak of finishing inside the top three.
Iowa Western Community College captured the title with 179.5 points followed by the College of DuPage's 165 in edging out Iowa Central's 164.5 point total. Ten points behind Barton in fifth was New Mexico Junior College scoring 153.5 points.
Additionally, the accomplishments also earned Barton a 7th overall placing in the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup, marking the sixth straight awarding inside the Top-7. Established in 2011-12, the LEARFIELD Directors' Cup also uses the same point system as the Case Cup while combining all divisions (Scholarship/Non-Scholarship/State Association) for a final compiled standing.
Barton was joined by four fellow Region 6 members on the Top-30 Case Cup list, Cowley College following the Cougars in 8th place with 129.5 points as the lone two in the top ten. Hutchinson Community College placed 13th on a 97.5 point total, Johnson County Community College was 17th (80.5 points), with Butler Community College coming in 26th (62.5 points).
Landing on the Directors' Cup Top-30 list, Barton's placing was joined by Cowley's 22nd placing as the lone Region 6 members in the combined standings.
A pair of national runner-up placings by the women's track and field program, one in the indoor season and one in the outdoor competition, led Barton's total with 38 points. The swimming programs racked up 33 points, 18 from the women's third place at nationals as the men's 6th placing tacked on another 15 points.
The men's tennis team earned Barton's third national runner-up with the bowling program contributing 29 points, 16 coming from the men's 5th placing and 13 points from the women finishing 8th.
Men's track and field added 27 total points by finishing 7th (14 points) from the indoor competition followed by an 8th placing (13 points) at the outdoor meet.
Volleyball's run at the national tournament resulting in a 4th place showing rounded out Barton's scoring with 17 points.
Competing at their respective season's end national tournament but falling outside Barton's top five point contributors and/or had representation at the national meet as individuals, were the men's basketball, women's tennis, and women's golf teams.
This is the seventh year that Daktronics has sponsored this award in conjunction with NATYCAA. The award was renamed during the 2024-25 season to the Ron Case Cup in honor of former NATYCAA president Ron Case (1999-2000), who served as Director of Athletics at Rowan College at Gloucester County for 25 years and stewarded the Cup program from its inception in 2004 through June 2024.
