Former Barton County Community College pitchers Nate Field and Jason Stanford have joined another former Cougar, David Sanders, as pitchers in the Major Leagues. Field is on his 2nd stint this season with the Kansas City Royals after becoming the 1st Cougar ever to pitch in the Major Leagues last season. Stanford is in his first go-round in the big leagues, pitching for the Cleveland Indians. Sanders is currently with the Chicago White Sox.
Several former Barton County Community College baseball players are making a lot of noise this season at their respective 4-years schools. Some of the loudest noise is currently going on at a pair of NCAA Division II Regionals, where 4 ex-Cougars are still playing post season ball. Another Cougars was tabbed as the Pitcher-of-the-Year in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
Glenn Jackson ends his Barton County Community College career with a selection to the All-Jayhawk West conference team. Jackson, a sophomore from Toronto, Canada, was selected as an outfielder to the 1st team.
The Barton County Community College baseball team finished its season after being eliminated by Pratt on the second day of the Jayhawk Conference Western Sub Regional tournament. The Cougars lost the game 12-5 to the Beavers. Three Barton pitchers allowed 15 hits, while the defense had four errors in the loss.
The No. 3 seeded Cougars were upset Thursday, losing to Garden City 8-3 in the first day of the Sub-Regional tournament. Barton allowed 13 Broncbuster hits in a game delayed twice because of light failure. Garden City catcher, Lance Schartz beat up the Cougar pitching with three hits, four runs scored and two RBIs.
The Barton County Community College baseball team completed it regular season over the weekend, winning 3 of 4 of the road to wrap up 3rd place in the Jayhawk West. The Cougars clinched 3rd place Friday with a sweep at Garden City, winning 12-4 and 2-1. Barton split games at Colby Saturday, winning the opener 7-1 and losing in the nightcap 8-3.
Robert Jones signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball for Barton County Community College next season. Jones is a senior at Yukon High School in Yukon, Okla.
Brian Dorsey signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball for Barton County Community College next season. Dorsey is a senior at Emporia High School in Emporia, Kan.
Andrew Small signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball for Barton County Community College next season. Small is a senior at St. Cecilia’s High School in Hastings Neb.
Matt Coatman signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball for Barton County Community College next season. Coatman is a senior at Lincoln Southeast High School in Lincoln, Neb.
Tony Hurla signed a letter-of-intent to play baseball for Barton County Community College next season. Hurla is a senior at Shawnee Mission Northwest High School in Shawnee, Kan.
The Barton County Community College baseball team lost a pair of games Wednesday at Pratt, but clinched at least a tie for 3rd despite the losses. Barton secured at least a tie for 3rd when Cloud County lost a game in a doubleheader split with Colby. Barton lost 12-2 and 6-5 in 8 innings to Pratt.
The Barton County Community College baseball team went 5-1 over the weekend and moved within one win of clinching the 3rd spot in the Jayhawk West. Barton split makeup games with Dodge City Friday in Great Bend, then swept two at Butler County Saturday. The Cougars made it a 5-1 weekend with a sweep of Colby Sunday in Great Bend in Barton’s final home games. The wins against Colby gave Barton a 12-4 home record this season in the West.
Former Barton County Community College pitcher David Sanders was called up to the Chicago White Sox major league team Wednesday. He joined the White Sox in Baltimore and saw major league action for the first time in his career, throwing a scoreless 8th inning in a 7-1 loss.
The Barton County Community College baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader for just the 2nd time in Jayhawk West play, losing on the road at Hutchinson Tuesday. The Cougars dropped the opener 5-1 then fell 2-1 in the nightcap in 8 innings.
The Barton County Community College baseball team is making a push for 2nd place in the Jayhawk West, taking 3 of 4 home games in two days. The Cougars made up a couple of rainouts Thursday and Friday at Cougars Fields, sweeping Pratt and splitting with Seward County. The split with Seward gave the Saints just their 2nd conference loss of the season. Barton also split with Brown Mackie Monday.
