Cougars outhit Grizzlies but fall in game one of doubleheader
The Barton Community College baseball team outhit Butler Community College in game one on Friday but committed four errors in the 4-0 loss at El Dorado’s McDonald Stadium. Barton drops to 11-18 on the season and 6-11 in conference play while Butler improves to 11-10 and 7-6.
Butler scored three runs in the third inning on only one hit as the Cougars committed two of their four errors on the day. The Grizzlies added an insurance run in the fifth inning courtesy of a hit batsman to start the inning followed by a fielding error leading to a sacrifice fly.
The Cougars outhit the Grizzlies six to five on the day as Aaron Coombs led Barton with the only multi-hit day going 2-for-3. Coombs and Aaron Gile both hit doubles but the Cougars stranded seven runners on base compared to Butler only stranding four.
Brett Tunnell pitched a complete game five-hitter but received no run support in taking the loss to drop to 2-3 on the season. Brad Day was equally impressive for the Grizzlies improving to 2-0 on the season with his six-hit complete game shutout.
