The Barton Community College baseball team had their season come to an end Saturday in Kansas City as the Cougars dropped the first two games of the three-game series to Kansas City Kansas Community College in first round action of the Region VI/Central District Tournament. The twelfth seeded Cougars got off to a rough start digging an early eight run deficit and never recovered leading to a 13-0 loss. Bouncing back in game two, Barton led through 5.5 innings but a four-run KCK home half of the sixth inning sent the Cougars home losing 7-3. Barton concludes the 2016 season at 29-27 while the fifth seeded Blue Devils improve to 39-18 advancing to next weekend’s eight team double-elimination bracket held at Wichita’s Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
The Barton Community College baseball team returned to Lawson-Biggs Field for its second consecutive day of competition splitting its conference doubleheader Thursday with Colby Community College. The conference leading Trojans jumped out to a ten run lead in game one winning 11-2 but the Cougars battled back in game two scoring in six of its eight innings at the plate including a six run third inning to split the twin bill with a 13-7 win. The split leaves Barton to 14-16 in Jayhawk Conference play and 28-24 overall while preventing Colby from clinching the conference crown moving to 22-8 and 37-13 on the year. The sixth place Cougars will play its final home games of the season on Sunday as the teams will wrap up their four-game series with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader.
The Barton Community College baseball team split its four-game series at Seward County Community College this past weekend. The Cougars rebounded on Saturday from a six inning 11-1 loss capturing the nightcap in a high scoring 17-12, then rallied for five final inning runs stealing Sunday’s first game 11-9 before faltering to a 10-0 seven inning loss to wind up the weekend. The weekend leaves Barton in the sixth spot in conference play at 13-15 and 27-22 on the season while Seward County remains a spot ahead of the Cougars at 16-12 and an identical 27-22 overall record. Next up for the Cougars will be a mid-week non-conference contest hosting national receiving votes Hutchinson Community College before wrapping up the regular season next weekend against first place Colby Community College. First pitch for Wednesday’s nine inning game at Lawson-Biggs Field set for 5:00 p.m. while the weekend series slated for 1:00 p.m.
Needing a win to snap a four game slide, a trip to Lindsborg, Kansas, provided a little relief for the Barton Community College baseball team as the Cougars returned home after a 10-3 win over the junior varsity squad of Bethany College. Held in check the first five innings the Cougars scored at least two runs in each of the last four innings improving to 22-18 on the season. Barton will return to conference play this weekend hosting Pratt Community College at Lawson-Biggs Field in a four-game series. Originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, in anticipation of wet weather sweeping through the area, the teams have moved up the series to 2:00 p.m. doubleheader on Friday followed by Saturday’s twin bill scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.
The Barton Community College baseball team suffered its first conference losses of the season Friday as Dodge City Community College took the doubleheader 4-3 and 12-4. The Cougars led throughout the opener but Dodge City crept back into it late getting two runs in the seventh including a safety squeeze play completing the comeback. Carrying the momentum into the nightcap, the Conquistadors plated six in the second inning proving to be the difference. Despite outhitting the Conquistadors in each of the games, Barton had its eight game conference win streak snapped dropping to 8-2 in the Jayhawk and 18-9 overall while Dodge City improves to 9-5 in the conference and 21-8 on the season. The teams will wrap up the four-game set on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Cavalier Field.
The Barton Community College baseball team got back to its winning ways Sunday taking a doubleheader over MCC-Longview 4-0 and 6-5 at Lawson-Biggs Field. Getting three runs in the fourth leading to the game one win, the Cougars’ five run lead in the nightcap was erased in the final two innings before a bases loaded walk-off single won the nightcap in ten innings. The fourth walk off win of the year improves the Cougars to 18-7 on the season while dropping MCC-Longview to 8-15. Barton will return to conference play on Friday beginning a two-day four-game set at Dodge City Community College. First pitch for each day’s doubleheader at Cavalier Field slated for 1:00 p.m.
The Barton Community College baseball team opened up conference play this past weekend in Concordia getting a four-game sweep at Cloud County Community College. On Saturday the Cougars rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to steal the opener 7-4 then took the nightcap 10-1 behind a six run fifth inning. Looking for the sweep on Sunday Barton put up a fourth inning ten spot winning game one 15-4 before scoring nine in the seventh for the clinching 15-7 series finale. The ninth straight victory improves the Cougars to 11-5 while dropping Cloud County to 2-15 on the season. Barton will have a mid-week non-conference contest this Wednesday in a 5:00 p.m. nine inning affair at Lawson-Biggs Field before also hosting Butler Community College in a four-game weekend conference set beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.
The Barton Community College baseball team needed two rallies Sunday at Lawson-Biggs Field for a pair of victories over Western Nebraska Community College sweeping the weekend four-game series. Scoring eleven runs in the final three innings of the opener, a five run home half of the sixth claimed a 13-10 victory while a six run bottom of the seventh comeback stole the series finale 11-10. Barton’s rallies improve the Cougars to 6-5 on the season while WNCC leaves Great Bend with a 3-11 record. Barton’s next contest will come this Wednesday in a 5:00 p.m. nine inning affair at Lawson-Biggs Field before heading to Concordia for the weekend’s conference opening four game series at Cloud County Community College.
