The Barton Community College baseball team did what only two other teams were able to do this season, earn a series split against West Division conference champion Colby Community College. Proving that they can play with anyone, the Cougars came out with a lot of emotion for the final day of the season at Lawson-Biggs Field taking Sunday’s opener 8-4. With Colby needing a win to secure an outright title and the first championship in the program’s history, the Trojans built momentum through the first five innings before a four-run sixth broke it open going on for an 11-5 win seizing the title. Barton finishes the regular season in a sixth place 15-17 in the Jayhawk Conference and 29-25 overall while Colby clinched the conference crown at 23-9 and 38-14.

One swing of the bat pretty much summed up the fate of the Barton Community College baseball team Wednesday at Lawson-Biggs Field as the Cougars took an eighth inning 10-0 loss to nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College. The Blue Dragons blasted three home runs in the non-conference affair none larger than a first inning grand slam leading to a five run start in building a nine run cushion through the first four frames. Hutchinson improves to 35-15 on the season dropping Barton to 27-23 with a quick turnaround staring the Cougars in the face returning to conference action on Thursday. Restructuring the weekend’s regular season finale due to anticipated inclement weather sweeping the state, the four-game series with the sixth place 13-15 Cougars hosting the first place Colby Community College Trojans will begin on Thursday with hopes of concluding in one of the following three days. First pitch slated for 1:00 p.m. as the Cougars look to derail Colby’s title hopes as the Trojans ride in to Great Bend atop the standings at 21-7 and 36-12 overall.

The Barton Community College baseball team opened up their four-game series Thursday versus Pratt Community College sweeping the Beavers 8-5 and 10-3 at Lawson-Biggs Field. The Cougar pitching staff struck out twenty-one Pratt batters while pounding the Beaver pitching staff with twenty-six hits producing five-run innings in each of the contests capturing the twin bill. The victories improve Barton to .500 in the conference season at 11-11 and 24-18 overall while dropping the Beavers to 6-16 and 16-28 on the season. The teams will conclude the series on Friday with a pair of games scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.

Needing a win to snap a four game slide, a trip to Lindsborg, Kansas, provided a little relief for the Barton Community College baseball team as the Cougars returned home after a 10-3 win over the junior varsity squad of Bethany College. Held in check the first five innings the Cougars scored at least two runs in each of the last four innings improving to 22-18 on the season. Barton will return to conference play this weekend hosting Pratt Community College at Lawson-Biggs Field in a four-game series. Originally scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, in anticipation of wet weather sweeping through the area, the teams have moved up the series to 2:00 p.m. doubleheader on Friday followed by Saturday’s twin bill scheduled for a 1:00 p.m. first pitch.

The Barton Community College baseball team suffered its first conference losses of the season Friday as Dodge City Community College took the doubleheader 4-3 and 12-4. The Cougars led throughout the opener but Dodge City crept back into it late getting two runs in the seventh including a safety squeeze play completing the comeback. Carrying the momentum into the nightcap, the Conquistadors plated six in the second inning proving to be the difference. Despite outhitting the Conquistadors in each of the games, Barton had its eight game conference win streak snapped dropping to 8-2 in the Jayhawk and 18-9 overall while Dodge City improves to 9-5 in the conference and 21-8 on the season. The teams will wrap up the four-game set on Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Cavalier Field.

The Barton Community College baseball team got back to its winning ways Sunday taking a doubleheader over MCC-Longview 4-0 and 6-5 at Lawson-Biggs Field. Getting three runs in the fourth leading to the game one win, the Cougars’ five run lead in the nightcap was erased in the final two innings before a bases loaded walk-off single won the nightcap in ten innings. The fourth walk off win of the year improves the Cougars to 18-7 on the season while dropping MCC-Longview to 8-15. Barton will return to conference play on Friday beginning a two-day four-game set at Dodge City Community College. First pitch for each day’s doubleheader at Cavalier Field slated for 1:00 p.m.

The Barton Community College baseball team trailed in the final innings of both games Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field rallying for a doubleheader sweep over Butler Community College. The Cougars took game one 4-3 on a walk-off double then in the nightcap needed another rally in the ninth inning before stealing the game 6-5 in eleven innings. In capturing its sixth come-from-behind win of the season, the unsung heroes amongst the clutch offensive execution was the Barton bullpen pitching of Taylor Langston and Mason Hiser closing out a combined 5.2 innings, scattering three hits, and striking out seven batters giving the offense a chance. The victory is the twelfth straight for the Cougars improving to 6-0 in conference play and 14-5 overall while Butler drops its conference opening day slipping to 10-9 on the season. The teams will wrap up the four game series with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader on Sunday.

The Barton Community College baseball team opened up conference play this past weekend in Concordia getting a four-game sweep at Cloud County Community College. On Saturday the Cougars rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh to steal the opener 7-4 then took the nightcap 10-1 behind a six run fifth inning. Looking for the sweep on Sunday Barton put up a fourth inning ten spot winning game one 15-4 before scoring nine in the seventh for the clinching 15-7 series finale. The ninth straight victory improves the Cougars to 11-5 while dropping Cloud County to 2-15 on the season. Barton will have a mid-week non-conference contest this Wednesday in a 5:00 p.m. nine inning affair at Lawson-Biggs Field before also hosting Butler Community College in a four-game weekend conference set beginning at 1:00 p.m. Saturday.

The Barton Community College baseball team needed two rallies Sunday at Lawson-Biggs Field for a pair of victories over Western Nebraska Community College sweeping the weekend four-game series. Scoring eleven runs in the final three innings of the opener, a five run home half of the sixth claimed a 13-10 victory while a six run bottom of the seventh comeback stole the series finale 11-10. Barton’s rallies improve the Cougars to 6-5 on the season while WNCC leaves Great Bend with a 3-11 record. Barton’s next contest will come this Wednesday in a 5:00 p.m. nine inning affair at Lawson-Biggs Field before heading to Concordia for the weekend’s conference opening four game series at Cloud County Community College.

The Barton Community College baseball team scored twelve runs in the final three innings Sunday winning 17-7 in a walk-off shortened seven innings over Highland Community College. The victory was the second over the Scotties on the weekend racking up thirty-two runs and earned the Cougars a split of its trip to Poteau, Oklahoma, having lost a pair to host Carl Albert State College. Barton will return to Oklahoma for its next weekend series playing three games at Rose State College in Midwest City beginning on Saturday.

Bouncing back from Friday's heartbreaking season opening loss, the Barton Community College baseball team split its games Saturday in Oklahoma, opening the day with a win before dropping the second. The Cougars put runs on the board in six of the seven innings in the opener clubbing Region VI member Highland Community College 15-3 before falling again to the opportune host Carl Albert State College 3-1. Barton will wrap up its three-day trip to Poteau taking on the Scotties of Highland again in an 11:00 a.m. first pitch.

The Barton Community College baseball team had a season opening victory within a strike, but three times the Vikings of Carl Albert State College escaped defeat with a dramatic 7-6 win Friday afternoon in Poteau, Oklahoma. The Cougars, who launched their own three-run rally in the seventh, had victory in grasp after getting the first two outs of the seventh but couldn’t get the third strike on three additional batters before a pinch hit double drove home two runs for the win. The teams will meet again on Saturday in another seven inning affair at 12:30 p.m. following Barton’s 10:00 am. Game versus Highland Community College.
