Barton County Community College men's basketball coach Ryan Wolf announced the signing of Nouha Diakite for the upcoming season.
Diakite, a 6-10 forward/center, is currently playing for the French Jr. National team. During recent international games, Diakite scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Yugoslavia as well as a 28-point, 18-rebound effort against Ivory Coast.
"Nouha is very long and athletic," Coach Wolf said. "He will really help us in the back of the press. He has a chance to be a great shot blocker as well. I also look for him to score for us on the inside."
Wolf saw Diakite during the Las Vegas Invitational a couple of weeks ago. That is one of the most prestigious AAU tournaments of the summer. Diakite made the all-tournament team at the event. Past players who have made the all-tournament team in Las Vegas are Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Nick Collison, and Drew Gooden to name just a few.
The signing of Diakite gives the Cougars five out-of-state players on the roster so far for next season. Diakite joins returnee Jason Carter, transfer Omari Westley, and Indianapolis freshmen stars Aaron Patterson and Jesse McClung.
In-state returnees for the Cougars are Ralphael Posey, Elisha Fields, and Aaron Hekele. In-state newcomers are Rone Smith and Tyler Luke of Wichita, Marcus Chrisman from Kansas City, Chris McMillon from Topeka, and Cody Rierson of McPherson.
Coach Wolf said the Cougars may add one or two more players to the roster.
