Cougars’ Gibson wins conference player of the week honor
Barton Community College men’s basketball player Darius Gibson has been named the KJCCC Verizon Wireless Co-Player of the Week. Gibson made quite the impression on fans this past weekend leading the Cougars in two victories this past weekend in the Highland Hotel/Pizza Hut Basketball Classic. The 6’1” sophomore transfer not only averaged 27 points, but was a strong floor leader and all-around player for the Cougars averaging 2.5 in assists and steals while also averaging eight rebounds, just missing a double-double performance on Saturday. Gibson shot an outstanding 69.5% from the field while also getting to the free throw line, knocking down 22-of-26 for 85% shooting. Gibson shares the honor with Hutchinson Community College’s DeShawn Freeman in the KJCCC’s first player of the week voting this season.
