The Barton Community College men's basketball team’s bid to win at the defending national champions fell by the wayside late as the Cougars dropped an 81-73 decision to the No. 6 ranked Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College. The loss sends the Cougars to the holiday break in second place of the Jayhawk Conference standings at 7-2 and 11-2 on the season while Hutchinson’s victory puts the Blue Dragons alone at the top at 8-1 and 12-1 overall. Barton’s next action will come Wednesday, January 3, in hosting Cloud County Community College (2-7, 4-8) in a 7:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym.

For three minutes Saturday night in Independence the Barton Community College men's basketball team looked like a squad still reeling from suffering their first loss of the season. Trailing 11-1 the Cougars caught fire the ensuing three minutes going on to shoot its second best effort of the season building a twenty-six point lead in coasting to an 80-63 victory at Independence Community College. The third straight win on the conference road improves the Cougars to 6-1 in the Jayhawk and 10-1 on the season while dropping Independence to 3-4 and 6-4 on the year. Barton has two remaining games left on the fall portion of the schedule, the first coming Wednesday in a 7:30 p.m. tip-off at the Barton Gym hosting Dodge City Community College (3-4, 5-5).

In the battle of unbeaten teams atop the early conference standings, the Barton Community College men's basketball team came out on top Saturday night in Arkansas City as the Cougars’ 10-0 late run was the difference maker in an 86-79 win at Cowley College. The victory improves Barton to 5-0 in conference play and 9-0 overall while Cowley drops into a three-team 4-1 log jam and 8-1 on the year. The Barton Community College men's basketball team shook off a slow start Tuesday night at the Barton Gym in coming away with a hard fought 75-70 victory over Seward County Community College. The Cougars trailed by eleven midway through the first half but begin second half play on a 12-2 run to flip the tide before holding off the Saints for Barton’s third straight win in the series. The victory improves Barton to 4-0 in conference play and 8-0 overall while Seward slips to 1-3 and 5-3 on the year. The Cougars will face the only other unblemished foe in the early conference season on Saturday as Barton travels to Cowley College (4-0, 7-1) for a 7:30 p.m. tip at the William S. Scott Gym in Arkansas City, Kansas.

The Barton Community College men's basketball team attacked the rim and knocked down timely shots Saturday at the Barton Gym to remain unbeaten on the season in a 91-82 win over Butler Community College. Scoring thirty-three points from the charity stripe, Barton also shot 52% from the field including a 63% second half performance while forcing a season high twenty-four turnovers. The victory improved Barton to 3-0 in conference play and 7-0 overall while Butler slips to 1-2 and 4-2 on the year. The Barton Community College men's basketball team shook off a cold first half shooting to recover from a six point deficit in winning 77-74 Wednesday night at Garden City Community College. Improving their second half shooting by nearly 14% including 7-of-11 from behind the arc, the Cougars built a seven point lead before holding off the Broncbusters in the final 4:30 to stay unblemished on the season. The victory moved Barton to 2-0 in conference play and 6-0 overall while Garden City’s bid for its first 6-0 start since 2011 will have to wait another year as the Broncbusters drop to 1-1 in the Jayhawk and 5-1 on the early season. Next up for Barton will be a return trip to the friendly confines on Saturday for a 7:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym versus Butler Community College.

The Barton Community College men's basketball team exploded for twenty-two points in the overtime period Saturday night at the Barton Gym to survive with a 105-92 victory over Colby Community College. The conference opening win keeps Barton unblemished on the early season at 5-0 while handing the Trojans its first loss to drop to 3-1. Connecting on just two long range shots in an eighteen point halftime margin, the Cougars dropped ten beyond the arc in the final twenty minutes in finishing with over ten three-pointers for the fourth straight game. The Barton Community College men's basketball team seized a pair of victories over the weekend at the Barton Gym in the Best Western Angus Inn Cougar Booster Club Classic. Trailing by three at halftime in Friday's game against Division II No. 16 ranked Highland Community College, the Cougars buried 7-of-12 from behind the arc in second half play in building an eight point lead before holding off the Scotties for an 81-76 victory. Barton never trailed in Saturday's Classic finale in racing out to a 9-2 lead before later burying the Cougars of Redlands Community College with a 16-1 second half spurt going on to a 97-75 victory. Improving to 3-0 on the early season, Barton will have its final non-conference tune-up Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. contest hosting the junior varsity squad from Sterling College before turning attention to Saturday's conference opener.
