Barton's Jones selected to NJCAA Basketball All-America 2nd Team
Lajae Jones of the Barton Community College men's basketball team has been tabbed as a 2nd Team All-America selection announced by the National Junior College athletic Association on April 9th.
Jones award is the first for the Cougars since Ahmad Walker's 2nd team distinction in 2015. The sophomore becomes the 14th different Cougar to garner All-America status and the 17th overall in program history.
The 10th leading scorer in Region VI this season at 15.4 points per game, Jones also did it on the boards cleaning up the fourth best 9.2 rebounds per contest. Jones, the son of former Cougar legend and 2nd team All-America Jackie Jones, posted 15 double-double performances over the course of the season including three coming at the NJCAA National Tournament.
Helping guide the Cougars to the program's first National Championship, Jones reached double figures in 32 of the Cougars' 37 games, recording a career high 30-point output in the season opener versus Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.
Jones' glass cleaning abilities were just as impressive throughout the season in hauling down 10 or more rebounds 17 times, with a season best 17 coming on the road against Dodge City.
The All-America honor adds to Jones' season accomplishments in earlier being named onto the Region VI/KJCCC first-team squad while racking up four Jayhawk Conference Player of the Week honors and one weekly NJCAA distinction.
