Kewley takes over Barton men’s soccer program

Barton Community College recently approved the hiring of Kevin Kewley as head coach for the men's soccer team.   Kewley becomes only the third coach in Barton's nationally renowned and Region VI powerhouse men's soccer program.   Arriving from fellow region school Pratt Community College, Kewley began the men's soccer program at Pratt three years ago compiling a 27-25-1 record including a 10-6-0 season last year.  Kewley replaces Oliver Twelvetrees who recently departed to begin the men's soccer program at Brevard Community College in Melbourne, Florida.

A Liverpool, England, native, Kewley is no stranger to soccer in Kansas having spent the past thirty-two years in the Wichita area.  Arriving in 1980, Kewley played and coached the Wichita Wings of the Major Indoor Soccer League until his retirement in 1990.  Nicknamed "The Tiger", Kewley was the Wing's team captain and a fan favorite of the Orange Army and was honored with the official retirement of his No. 8 jersey.

After his retirement as a Wings player, Kewley became the Wings' assistant coach and later assumed the head coach position.   In the 1991 National Professional Soccer League (NPSL) all-star game, Kewley also served as head coach for the National Conference Team.  Kewley's last season as coach for the Wichita Wings was 2001 when the NPSL ceased operations.

Leaving the professional ranks, Kewley has been an active leader and coach of Wichita area youth soccer teams with many of his players going on to play or coach at higher levels. 

Presented with the opportunity to build the Pratt men's program from the ground up, Kewley led the Beavers to a 9-9-0 record their inaugural season.  In the program's second season, the Beavers went 8-10-1 and were eliminated in the Region VI playoffs by eventual national champion Cloud County Community College.  In Kewley's last season with the Beavers, Pratt compiled a 10-6-0 record falling to Dodge City Community College 1-0 in the Region VI playoffs.

Playing soccer essentially his entire life, Kewley began his career with the Liverpool Football Club.  Signed as an apprentice at age sixteen, Kewley played professional for the Club the following year before leaving for the United States to play for the Dallas Tornado of the North American Soccer League until moving to Wichita.
