After a scoreless first half, the Cougars not only faced a stiff north wind but the confidence of the Conquistadors. It only took less than five minutes into the second half for the Conqs to grab the lead on a Larry Martinez unassisted goal. Barton's season leading scorer Sam McCrillis tied the score seven minutes later on an Ezekiel Alvarez pass only to have Martinez put Dodge City back ahead ten minutes later. Down to the game's final sixteen minutes, McCrillis broke down the sideline and launched an eighteen yard blast just outside the box that the Dodge defense wasn't able to clear resulting in an own goal. With Barton gaining momentum, Dodge City's Eanna O'Gorman was ejected giving the Cougars a man advantage for the remaining ten minutes. Barton seized the opportunity with constant attacks before Tyler Dixon received a pin-point cross from McCrillis to blast it just inside the far post for the game winner.
