Team effort leads to Cougars’ 6-0 shutout over Western Nebraska
Recording its second shutout of the young season, the Barton Community College men’s soccer team defeated Western Nebraska Community College 6-0 Sunday at Cougar Field. Barton led 2-0 at halftime behind goals from Mariano Gelso and Jovanny Bonilla and unleashed an offensive attack in the second half. The Cougars had five different players score with five different players with assists coming on all but one of the scores. Ebu Camara led the attack with two goals but the highlight of the day came from Diogo Quirino. A defender on the field, Quirino dribbled past Western Nebraska defenders three-quarters of the length of the field to score Barton’s lone unassisted goal. Sam McCrillis, Barton leading goal scorer this season, scored the Cougars sixth goal from Ezekiel Alvarez, the team’s leader in assist, with just six seconds remaining for the final 6-0 score.
