Gelso commits to UC-Santa Barbara
Barton Community College men’s soccer player Gonzalo Gelso became the first Cougar from the 2012 Region VI Championship team to commit to play at the next level, signing with the University of California Santa Barbara.
Barton Community College men's soccer player Gonzalo Gelso became the first Cougar from the 2012 Region VI Championship team to commit to play at the next level, signing with the University of California Santa Barbara.
The Wellington, Florida, native scored nineteen points from his midfield position scoring six goals and seven assists. Gelso helped lead the Cougars to a No. 6 national ranking falling in the District Championship to finish at 16-3-1 on the season. Along the way Gelso helped the Cougars capture its fifth Region VI title while earning first team All-Conference, All-Region VI, and third team NJCAA Division I All-American status.
Gelso finished his two-year career at Barton with twenty-five points in twenty-seven games place, getting eight on goal and nine assists. A talented artist off-the-field, Gelso will take his academic and athletic talents to one of the premier men's soccer programs in the nation. The Gauchos have made nine-straight NCAA appearances and boosts a two-time National Coach of the Year leading the helm.
