David Schenek, Barton Track & Field Head Coach

Bio

David Schenek is in his 11th season leading the storied Barton Men’s and Women’s Track & Field programs and embarks on the 2020 season as the defending NJCAA women’s indoor champions.

In Coach Schenek’s previous nine seasons, the Cougars have earned a combined 21 Top-5 National finishes while landing in the Top-10 nationally twenty-nine times.

A national runner-up finish was the lowest either the men or women finished in either of the 2019 indoor and outdoor NJCAA Championships. The women’s squad secured the College’s 57 National Championship at the indoor championships with the men placing runner-up. In the outdoor season the Cougars were in the title chase in both genders but came up just short in bringing home a pair of runner-up trophies.

The indoor season produced 39 All-American awards including Coach Schenek named both the Central Region Women's Coach of the Year following the women's 28th Region VI Indoor title and earning the National Women’s Coach of the Year. Assisted by the Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year Mark’Quis Frazier, Schenek squad as hauled in the Women’s Track Athlete of the Year by freshman T’Nia Riley.

The squad’s outdoor title chase also resulted in a haul of awards with 41 All-America merits and Coach Schenek and Frazier earning Central Region Coaches of the Year. Schenek’s Cougars assaulted the program record book at the national meet highlighted by Alencar Pereira shattering the NJCAA hammer throw record and Kevin Nedrick winning the National Field Athlete of the Year voting in piling up twenty-six overall points which included the discus title.
