The Barton Community College women's basketball program under first year head coach Alan Clark announces additional Kansas signings for the 2016 Lady Cougar season. Barton women hold off late charge knocking off Dodge City

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team held off a late charge Saturday night at the Barton Gym in knocking off Dodge City Community College 62-57. The Lady Cougars only trailed early in the contest building up a ten point lead early in the fourth quarter keeping Dodge City at arm’s length to win their fourteenth straight over the Conquistadors at the Barton Gym. The victory gets the Lady Cougars back to the .500 mark at 13-13 while improving to 5-10 in conference play and 12-13 overall while Dodge City drops to 16-9 and 6-8 in the Jayhawk. Barton will next hit the road for its next two games beginning with a Wednesday trip to Colby Community College for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off. The Lady Cougars will then head to Seward County Community College next Saturday before hosting its final regular season contest on Wednesday, February 17.

Fresh off a comeback victory over the conference’s second place and nationally receiving votes team, the story book was wrote for a repeat performance for the Barton Community College women’s basketball team Wednesday night at Garden City Community College. In position for their second straight upset over the new second place team after erasing an early fourteen point deficit, Barton’s opportunities escaped its grasp on a fade away jumper with 1.3 seconds as the Broncbusters escaped with a 60-58 win at the Dennis Perryman Gymnasium. The loss drops the Lady Cougars to 4-10 in conference play and 12-13 overall while Garden City improves to 18-7 on the season remaining one game out of the top spot at 12-2. Barton will next play host to Dodge City Community College on Saturday as the Lady Cougars will look to avenge the season’s earlier four point loss to the Lady Conquistadors. Tip off time is 5:30 p.m. with Hall of Fame festivities taking place immediately following the contest.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team rallied from an eleven point second half deficit to pull off a 70-66 upset last night at the Barton Gym over Coffeyville Community College. Shooting over 43% for the first time in seven games and closing on a 19-4 run, the victory over the nationally receiving votes Ravens ends a three game slide for Barton improving to 4-9 in the Jayhawk Conference and getting back to the .500 mark at 12-12 while dropping Coffeyville into a third place conference tie at 10-3 and 18-6 overall. The Lady Cougars will next head to second place Garden City Community College for a 5:30 p.m. tip at the Dennis Perryman Gymnasium.

Trailing by one headed to the fourth quarter, the Barton Community College women’s basketball was outscored by fourteen in the final ten minutes as Cloud County Community College pulled away for a 67-52 victory Wednesday night in Concordia. The second straight loss was also the second straight identical 67-52 score as Barton drops to 3-8 in the Jayhawk and 11-11 on the season while Cloud County improves to 6-5 and 14-8 on the season. Next up for Barton will be Saturday’s Homecoming and Pink Out Night as the Lady Cougars take on No. 8 ranked Hutchinson Community College in a 5:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym.

Defensive effort not enough, Lady Cougars outgunned by No. 20 Seward County

Despite a valiant defensive effort Saturday afternoon at the Barton Gym, the Barton Community College women’s basketball simply didn’t have enough offensive firepower to match Seward County Community College dropping a 67-52 decision to the No. 20 ranked Lady Saints. The loss drops Barton to 3-7 in the Jayhawk and 11-10 on the season while Seward County improves to 7-3 and 15-5 on the season. Next up for the Lady Cougars will be a Wednesday trip to Concordia taking on Cloud County Community College in a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.

Monster comeback falls short for Barton women in Dodge

Left for dead headed to the fourth quarter, the Barton Community College women’s basketball eighteen point deficit rally fell short in the last moment of play Saturday afternoon at the Civic Center as nationally receiving votes Dodge City Community College held off the Lady Cougars 74-70. The victory snapped a four game Barton win streak over Dodge City including a two game streak on the Conquistadors’ home court as the Lady Cougars lost for the fifth time in conference play by six or less points in dropping to 2-6 in Jayhawk play and 10-9 overall while Dodge City improves to 5-3 and 15-4 on the season. Next up for Barton will be a two-game home stand beginning with a 5:30 p.m. tip Wednesday versus Colby Community College before Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. matinee against Seward county Community College.

Record performance dooms Barton women in late loss to Garden City

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team had another potential victory slip through their hands Wednesday night as the Lady Cougars dropped a 64-58 conference battle with Garden City Community College. The Lady Cougars, who led by as many as eight in the second quarter, held a one point lead with 3:47 to play but went scoreless until the last few seconds while Garden City scored seven in the stretch adding two more to ice the game late. Barton falls to 2-5 and 10-8 on the season while the Lady Busters behind a school tying three-point record earned their fifth straight victory in the Barton Gym improving to 7-1 in Jayhawk play and 13-6 overall. Barton will head to Dodge City on Saturday for a 1:00 p.m. tip at the Civic Center taking on nationally receiving votes Dodge City Community College who comes off a 90-48 drubbing at No. 8 Hutchinson Community College.

Defensive second half carries Barton women to road victory at Neosho

Getting back to its defensive roots the Barton Community College women’s basketball team put Neosho County Community College in second half lockdown Saturday in Chanute, Kansas, as the Lady Cougars pulled away in the final fifteen minutes winning 60-47. Leading by two at the break, Barton never trailed in the game and was tied only twice early in the third quarter as the Lady Cougars held Neosho to only sixteen total second half points enroute to the victory. Barton improves to 2-4 in conference play and 10-7 on the season while sending Neosho to its fourth straight loss dropping to 1-6 in Jayhawk play and 3-7 overall. Barton will get back to more familiar play on Wednesday as Garden City Community College comes to the Barton Gym for a 5:30 p.m. tip as the Lady Cougars will play twelve out of their remaining thirteen games against Western Division foes.

Lady Cougars outgunned in home loss to Independence

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team needed a strong defensive effort to protect home court but instead came up short 82-76 to Independence Community College. Giving up more than twenty points in the first three quarters of play, the Lady Cougars clawed from behind virtually all night surrendering more than eighty points for just the second time this season in non-overtime games. The loss drops Barton to 1-4 in conference play and 9-7 overall while Independence improves 3-3 in the Jayhawk and 12-4 on the season. Barton will next head to Chanute, Kansas, on Saturday for a 2:00 p.m. tip at Neosho County Community College.

Lady Cougars drop another late game heart breaker, fall 58-56 to Cowley

For the fourth time this season victory escaped the grasp of the Barton Community College women’s basketball team as the Lady Cougars dropped a heart breaking 58-56 defeat Saturday to Cowley College at the Barton Gym. Leading by one with seventy-eight seconds, the Lady Cougars went scoreless the rest of game committing a costly turnover and foul down the stretch in suffering its second conference loss in three games with victory within reach in the closing moment of play. The loss drops Barton to 0-3 in Jayhawk play and 8-6 on the season going into the holiday break while Cowley remains unbeaten in conference play improving to 4-0 and 13-2 on the season. The Lady Cougars’ next game will come Saturday, January 2, at Allen County Community College with its next home game coming Wednesday, January 6, hosting Independence Community College.

Second half troubles spelled disaster Saturday afternoon at the Power Plant as the Barton Community College women’s basketball team was blown out in the final twenty minutes dropping their second straight conference game losing 63-43 at No. 15 Butler Community College. The Lady Cougars led by seven in the first half but were outscored by twenty-two points in the final twenty minutes to drop its second consecutive road game to start conference play and sinks to 8-5 on the season. Bouncing back from a home opening loss on Wednesday, the Lady Grizzlies improve their season record to 11-2. Barton will have a week from competition until hosting Cowley College on Saturday in a 3:30 p.m. tip at the Barton Gym.

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team came up a point shy in their 2015 Jayhawk conference opener Wednesday night falling 57-56 at Pratt Community College. The loss was the fourth straight at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena dropping Barton to 8-4 on the season while Pratt improves to 7-3. The Lady Cougars will head to El Dorado on Saturday for their next contest playing at Nol. 15 ranked Butler Community College in a 2:00 p.m. tip at the Power Plant.

Lady Cougars rally for overtime win over Otero

One night after nearly pulling off an upset of a team just outside the nation’s top twenty-five, the Barton Community College women’s basketball team needed a late comeback Saturday to earn an 87-82 overtime victory over Otero Junior College. Splitting the weekend games at the Barton Gym of the Best Western Booster Club Thanksgiving Classic, the Lady Cougars avenged an earlier season defeat to the Lady Rattlers at Otero’s home classic improving to 8-3 wrapping up the non-conference portion of the schedule. Barton will now turn attention to the rugged Jayhawk Conference grind opening with consecutive road games beginning Wednesday at Pratt Community College followed by a Saturday trip Butler Community College.

Lady Cougars double up for sixth straight victory

Friday night at the Barton Gym wasn’t repeat record setting performance of two days prior but it was another dominating performance by the Barton Community College women’s basketball team in doubling up the junior varsity squad of Bethany College 94-46. The Lady Cougars broke open a tight start to the game closing the last minute and a half of the first quarter on a 12-0 run then put it away with a 24-6 third quarter going on to win its sixth straight. Improving to 7-2 on the season, Barton will have a week off from competition before hosting the Best Western Booster Club Classic Thanksgiving Classic on November 27-28.

Lady Cougars rally for win over Murray State

The Barton Community College women’s basketball team battled back from an eight point deficit Saturday then held off Murray State College down the stretch winning 61-60 at the Hutchinson Sports Arena in the Hutch Pawn and Jewelry Classic. The fourth straight victory improves Barton to 5-2 on the season sending the Aggies to their second straight loss having squandered a thirteen point lead on Friday falling by five to No. 3 Hutchinson dropping to 3-3 on the season. The Lady Cougars’ next action will come at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday against the junior varsity squad from Sterling College in the first of a four-game non-conference home stand before beginning conference play December 2nd on the road.

Full court pressure defense turned the tide Friday as the Barton Community College women’s basketball team won handily 70-55 over the junior varsity squad from Central Methodist University in the opening game of Hutch Pawn and Jewelry Classic at the Hutchinson Sports Arena. Barton improves to 4-2 on the season heading into Saturday’s 1:30 p.m. game against 4-3 Murray State College to wrap up the two-game classic.

A number of individual and team high performances helped the Barton Community College women’s basketball team pull away Wednesday night at the Barton Gym for an 87-51 victory over the junior varsity squad from Tabor College. Increasing a four point first quarter lead to twelve by halftime, the Lady Cougars exploded for thirty-five third quarter points going on to the thirty-six point victory. Barton improves to 3-2 on the season heading into a weekend short trip to Hutchinson for the Hutch Pawn & Jewelry Classic. The Lady Cougars will play at 1:30 p.m. each day first taking on the junior varsity squad from Central Methodist University on Friday and then Murray State College on Saturday.

Jones becomes latest Tennessee signing for Barton women’s basketball

The state of Tennessee and the Memphis area has been a stock of talent for the Barton Community College women’s basketball program in recent years. Earlier this week the Lady Cougars announced the signing of Jalisa Jones becoming the fifth player from Tennessee compiling the 2015-16 roster.
