Lady Cougar golf comes from behind to win season’s first meet; Teeratrakul wins individual honors
The Barton Community College women’s golf team began the 2013-14 season right where it left off from last season, in first place. However the victory didn’t come easy at Colby’s Meadow Lake Golf Course as the Lady Cougars needed a comeback to win the Jayhawk Conference’s first meet of the season. Barton trailed by five strokes after Sunday’s eighteen holes of competition but put together solid rounds during Monday’s nine hole round to win by three strokes. Freshman Natthakan Teeratrakul led the charge capturing first place as the Lady Cougars had four individuals in the top ten.

Natthakan Teeratrakul became the first Lady Cougar to capture first place since Rachel Strecker's win on March 20, 2011. The freshman from Thailand fired a 76 and 38 to finish with a 114, five strokes better than Dodge City's Annie Sheridan. Freshman Abbie Thelen, who competed as an individual and not counted in the Barton team score, posted a 128 to finish in third place. Sophomores Blakelee Cooper and Kara Koepplin finished in fifth and seventh place posting scores of 132 and 134 respectively.
The Cougars finished with a team total of 522 to outdistance Dodge City Community College's 525 and Colby Community College's 607. Barton will be back on the links September 22 for the Conference Meet No. 2 to be held at Mariah Hills Golf Course in Dodge City, Kansas.
