Trailing by four strokes heading into Friday’s final round of the sixth KJCCC meet of the season, the Barton Community College women’s golf team rallied to win by four strokes flip-flopping the scoreboard in capturing the final conference meet of the season. The Lady Cougars bettered the field by eight strokes during the final nine holes to win their second straight conference meet tying Dodge City Community College in the final standings with three wins each during the season. As all the competitors fought through two days of extreme wind conditions at Great Bend’s StoneRidge Country Club Golf Course, Barton finished with a combined 532 while the Conquistadors carded a 536 with each of the two having four players in the Top-10 individual standings. Coffeyville Community College, who did not field a complete team, completed the individual standings placing all three of their Red Ravens into the Top-10.
Having fell just three strokes shy of pulling off a rally in its previous conference meet, the Barton Community College women's golf team led from start to finish the last two days winning the fifth KJCCC Meet of the season by twenty-one strokes. Leading by thirteen after the first nine holes at Dodge City's Mariah Hills Golf Course, the Cougars extended the margin Monday taking the top two individual placings finishing with four in the top ten. Barton finished with a 514 combined score while the hometown Conquistadors of Dodge City Community College finished with 535. The Cougars' victory snaps Dodge City's four meet win streak and sets up a showdown for a title in the final conference meet of the season April 15-16 at Great Bend's StoneRidge Country Club Golf Course.
The Barton Community College women's golf team rallied on day two but fell three strokes short finishing second in the fourth KJCCC Meet of the season. Opening up the spring portion of the schedule with a conference meet, the Lady Cougars trailed by four after the first eighteen holes at the Emporia Golf Course cutting one stroke off the deficit in the final nine. Dodge City Community College held off the Lady Cougars assuring itself at least a tie for the conference title capturing its third straight conference meet grabbing a 3-1 lead heading into the final two meets of the season. The Conquistadors’ posted a winning 532 twenty-seven hole combined total with the Lady Cougars’ carding their highest conference score of the season at 535. Coffeyville Community College did not field a complete team and therefore did not register a team score.
