No. 20 Barton Wrestling sets program record in Missouri triangular split

No. 20 Barton Community College Wrestling took to the road on Wednesday returning home with a split of its two duals in Warrensburg, Missouri.  The Cougars first took on NCAA Division II host University of Central Missouri, falling to the Mules 33-12, before dominating nationally receiving votes Wentworth Military Academy 56-0 in setting a program record for points in a dual.   Barton will next return to the mats next Tuesday traveling to defending national champion and currently ranked No. 10 Northeastern Oklahoma A&M in a 7:00 p.m. dual in Miami, Oklahoma.

Barton had three victories in its match with Central Missouri, with two of the losses resulting in a late turnaround of events.  Skylar Johnson earned the first win with a forfeit in the 125 division with the Cougars drawing to within 11-9 following Howard Johnson's 149 pound 6-5 win over former Great Bend product Zachary Schridde.  The Cougars then dropped the next two weight classes before David Kelly followed up his weekend victory at the Dan Harris Open with a 7-3 win drawing Barton back to within 20-12 before dropping the final three matches.

The Cougars handled Wentworth in the second leg of the dual with the shutout victory falling just four points shy of a perfect match.  With Johnson drawing his second 125 forfeit of the day, Barton earned pins in seven of the matches adding a technical fall to the mix with a 5-3 victory by Johnson being the lone close match on the scoreboard.
