Barton sets school record with 14 goals; Garcia sets school mark for assists
The Barton Community College women’s soccer team put its name in the record book with a 14-0 win over Dodge City Wednesday afternoon at Cougar Fields in the Jayhawk Conference opener for the Cougars. Barton scored 7 goals in each half for the 14-0 win, eclipsing the mark of 12 goals set in 2005 against Coffeyville. In the process, Great Bend sophomore Yesenia Garcia set a school mark by recording 5 assists in the contest. The win improves the Cougars to 5-2 on the season and gets them off to a 1-0 start in Jayhawk play. Barton will be back at home for another Jayhawk contest Saturday when Cowley College visits at 2 pm.

Highlights
The Cougars scored 3 times in the opening 10 minutes of the game for an early 3-0 and the contest was never in doubt after that. Garcia had assists on each of those goals as well as then next Barton goal as she assists the 1st 4 goals for the Cougars. Nataleigh Cliff, Amber Hull, Theresa Crane, and Betsy Dreiling each scored on Garcia's 1st 4 assists. Garcia later assisted Hull for another goal and in between scored 2 goals. She later added a 3rd goal of her own. She set the record last season for most goals in a game when she netted 7 in the final regular season game of the year at Cloud County.
Crane matched Garcia with 3 goals and added an assist. Flavia Bernardes scored 2 goals with an assist while Jaszmyne Beverly and Ailie Freel each scored goals. Beverly had 2 assists and Paige Christiansen added an assists as well. Barton got off 67 shots in the contest with 36 of them on goal. Dodge got off just 2 shots the entire game with 1 on goal.
Barton will be back in action Saturday when Cowley College visits in the Tigers 1st year of soccer. Cowley is 2-2 this year – all conference games – with shutout wins over Independence (4-0) and Allen County (6-0). Cowley has lost to Neosho in a close contest (3-2) and lost to Hutchinson by a 4-1 count.
