Barron’s six points lifts No. 18 Lady Cougars to 4-1 win over Pratt

The No. 18 ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team closed out regular season play Saturday at the Cougar Soccer Complex with a 4-1 win over Pratt Community College.  The Lady Cougars score three first half goals in improving to 10-1-1 in conference play and 11-3-1 while dropping Pratt to 2-8-1 in conference and 3-11-1 overall.  Barton will conclude the regular season at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Garden City Community College before turning the attention to post-season play.   The Lady Cougars appear to be headed to the Region VI playoffs as the No. 3 seed, tying Johnson Community College College in the standings.

Mariana Poveda scored her fourth goal of the season on a 22' blast from the top of the penalty circle giving Barton the 1-0 lead 10:13 into the contest.  Bianca Barron, who had the assist on Poveda's goal, scored her first of two on the day less than eight minutes later finishing off a Katelyn James forward ball and beating Pratt goalkeeper Lexi Stagner.   Barron would return the favor with 6:40 remaining in the first half setting up Ronnie Johnson's cross through the box to James giving the Lady Cougars a 3-0 lead.

Barron closed out her home turf regular season with a historic unassisted goal just 3:38 into the second frame.  Having earlier tied Great Bend native Yesenia Garcia in the Barton record books, Barron took an errant Stagner pass to deposit it back over the keeper and claim the second best goal scorer spot in Lady Cougar soccer history.

The Lady Beavers managed to get on the scoreboard nine minutes later as Lauren Snyder found Nousette Escoto down the sideline.  Getting a step on the Barton defense, Escoto's right foot registered inside the far post just beyond the onrush of Barton keeper Kacee Walsh.

Barton launched twenty-three shots with twelve in between the pipes while also holding Pratt to five including two on goal.
