Stamenkovic and Kaneko earn Week Four honors
Stasa Stamenkovic and Mina Kaneko of the now 8th ranked Barton Community College volleyball team have been selected in week four voting for Division I Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Players of the Week.
The duo fueled the Cougars through a five-match stretch last week that included a conference road win at Dodge City and four contests at the Sheila Worley Invitational featuring a pair of top-10 opponents in Sterling, Colorado.
Stamenkovic reached double-digit kills in four of the matches to average 4.31 kills on .333 hitting across 16 sets. Contributing 5 service aces and 6 blocks, Stamenkovic averaged 3.38 digs per set in posting three double-doubles on the week. After opening with a career high 20 kills with 15 digs at Dodge City, Stamenkovic followed with 15 kills and 12 digs in a sweep of Laramie County. The Serbia native added 12 kills on .417 hitting against No. 9 Odessa and closed with 14 kills and 13 digs against No. 5 and host Northeastern Junior College.
Kaneko picked up her third KJCCC honor of the early season by anchoring the back row in solid fashion, committing just four reception errors (.959) while averaging 4.25 digs per set, finishing with 68 total digs over 16 sets, in addition to, providing 16 assists and one service ace.
Enjoying a much need week's break from competition, the now 16-4 Cougars crank back up into conference play putting their 3-0 record to the test beginning Monday at Pratt Community College. Two days later, Barton heads to 12th ranked Colby Community College before wrapping up the week Saturday at Garden City Community College.
