Barton track and field with thirty-five All-American performances; tops in Region VI

The Barton Community College track and field team recorded a combined thirty-five All-American performances recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) by virtue of finishing among the top eight in their events, including as a member of a relay team, at the 2016 NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held May 17-19 in Levelland, Texas. The Cougar men had the third most amongst the teams with nineteen finishing in eight place with forty-two points while the Lady Cougars ranked sixth most with sixteen honors leading to a fifty-two point sixth place national finish.

The Barton Community College women's track and field team placed sixth at the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field National Championships held in Levelland, Texas, following up the same finish at the national indoor meet. With cool and rainy conditions sweeping across the Texan Track and Field Stadium, the Lady Cougars came away with three individual championships led by freshman standout Ayesha Champagnie’s titles in the heptathlon and javelin while sophomore Tasha Frazier saved her best performance of her Barton career capturing the long jump title. The duo combined for forty-one of the Lady Cougars’ 52 points to double-up the nearest fellow Region VI team score as five new personal bests were recorded with three coming from freshman performances.

Barton women track and field team win half of Region VI events, captures outdoor championship

The Barton Community College women's track and field team captured the program's 26th Region VI Outdoor Championship on Saturday as the Lady Cougars won eleven of the twenty-two events this past weekend at Garden City Community College's Broncbuster Stadium. Adding the title to its Region VI Indoor championship, the Lady Cougars didn't compete in three events but dominated the championship in cold and blustery conditions nonetheless while also being crowned the Jayhawk West Conference champions. The region title was the first for Barton since 2009 racking up 189 points to unseat defending region champion Coffeyville Community College by twenty-four points and running away with the conference title by sixty-three points over runner-up Butler Community College.

A week following a strong performance in Texas, the Barton Community College women's track and field team returned to the state of Kansas with more improving efforts competing this past weekend in the K.T. Woodman Classic in Wichita, Kansas. The Lady Cougars brought home a gold and twelve top-ten finishes to go along with twelve personal best and national qualifying level performances.

The Barton Community College women's track and field team added eight more national qualifying performance after competing in their second indoor meet of the season this weekend at the Holiday Inn Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, Nebraska. Competing against both NCAA and NJCAA level teams along with professional athletes training for Olympic hopes, the Lady Cougars had thirteen top-10 finishes to go along with the national qualifying performances.
